I fatti salienti per la LAMPRE-MERIDA in relazione alla 7^tappa del Tour de France, la L'Isle Jourdain-Lac de Payolle di 162,5 km con lo scollinamento del Col d'Aspin a 7 km dal traguardo, sono stati principalmente tre.
Il primo ciclista blu-fucsia-verde a cercare di essere protagonista è stato Rui Costa, reattivo ad adeguarsi alla partenza ad altissimo ritmo del gruppo e a unirsi a un tentativo di fuga di 9 corridori. Nonstante la buona collaborazione tra fuggitivi, il plotone ha concesso un vantaggio troppo esiguo che ha portato alla neutralizzazione dell'azione dopo 43 km di gara.
"La corsa è partita a un ritmo altissimo, sapevo che ci sarebbero potuti essere attacchi subito dopo il via e così mi sono fatto trovare pronto - ha spiegato Rui Costa - Nonstante il vento frontale, abbiamo pedalato forte ma il gruppo non ci ha concesso spazio.
La nostra azione è stata annullata, peccato perché avevo speso energie per entrare nella fuga e per cercare di farle prendere un buon margine: nel resto della tappa ho pensato a risparmiare in vista dei prossimi giorni".
Tutto da rifare ed ecco Tsgabu Grmay (foto Watson/Bettini)e Kristijan Durasek trovare il colpo di pedale giusto per inserirsi tra i 29 corridori promotori di una nuova fuga che, questa volta, trovato il via libera dal gruppo, toccando un vantaggio massimo di 6'.
Il duo della LAMPRE-MERIDA non è però riuscito a entrare nel vivo della lotta per il successo di tappa, rimanendo attardato quando, a 40 km dal traguardo, l'armonia nel gruppetto dei fuggitivi si è spezzata.
Solo 6 tra gli attaccanti sono sfuggiti alla rimonta del gruppo e Cummings (uno degli attaccanti) è riuscito a coronare un'azione personale con il successo in solitaria.
Per quanto riguarda Meintjes, lo scalatore sudafricano ha corso coperto nel gruppo, per poi mostrare una buona condizione sull'Aspen, scalato dagli uomini di classifica con un ritmo sostenuto, che però non ha offerto particolari sussulti e non ha apportato una grossa selezione.
Il giovane talento della LAMPRE-MERIDA ha tagliato il traguardo con il gruppo principale (coposto da 40 atleti) in 23^posizione (a 4'29" dal vincitore), questo il suo commento: "Anche oggi tutto bene, il passo del gruppo è stato sostenuto ma in pochi sono stati messi in difficoltà.
Sono sempre concentrato e penso a dare il meglio giorno dopo giorno",
Meintjes è salito al 18° posto della classifica generale, a 6'53" da Van Avermaet, oggi in fuga e al traguardo in 5^posizione.

The 7th stage of the Tour de France (L'Isle Jourdain-Lac de Payolle, 162,5 km with the summit of the Col d'Aspen at 7 km to the arrival) was remarkable for LAMPRE-MERIDA for three events.
Rui Costa was swift in joining a breakaway of 9 riders which went clear from the peloton few kilometers after the start, in an early part of the course that was covered at a very high average speed.
The breakaway, despite the good cooperation between the attackers, was chased by the bunch, which neutralized it after 43 km in the stage.
"I was aware that the attacks wouldhave begun in the early kilometers, so I tried to follow one of them and I succeeded in pedaling in a breakaway which appeared to be a good breakaway - Rui Costa explained - However, the peloton chased us and neutralized our action: it was a pity, because I had spent energies. For the rest of the stage, I did not want to spend more energies, saving them for the next stages".
A new large breakaway was promoted and this time it was the turn of Tsgabu Grmay (photo Watson/Bettini) and Kristijan Durasek to join it.
This front group (29 riders) had a maximum advantage of 6', however the LAMPRE-MERIDA' duo did not succeeded in partecipating in the battle for the victory: at 40 km to the arrival, the cooperation between the attackers got broken and the front group was split in several parts.
Only 6 attackers remained in the head of the race and Cummings counter-attacked for a solo victory.
For what concerns Meintjes, he spent most part of the day well hidden in the bunch and, when the road began to to go upward, he set a good speed which allowed him to be in the top climbers group.
Actually, the pace of the group was high but it not was not selective and 40 riders reached the arrival at 4'29" to the winner: Meintjes was 23rd, this is his comment "Everything was fine, I had good feelings on the climb, the pace of the group was high, however not so many riders suffered it.
Let's focus the attention of the two next stages, which will be very demanding".
In the overall classification, the South African cyclist is 18th at 6'53" to Van Avermaet, who was today in the breakaway and who obtained the 5th place.
