Cimolai, quarto piazzamento personale nella top 10

Cimolai for the fourth time in the top 10

19 luglio 2015

Davide Cimolai demonstrated once again his qualities as sprinter collecting a place in the top 10 of a Tour de France stage for the fourth time.

The young talent from Team LAMPRE-MERIDA, who had a difficult week on the Pyrenees roads, obtained the 9th place in the 15th stage of the Grande Boucle (Mende-Valence, 183 km), exploiting the support of his team mates in the approach of the sprint.
The final sprint (photo Bettini), which was very fast, was won by Greipel, while Cimolai was focused on exploiting the remaining energies in order to fight against the top sprinter: in the stage standing, he was the first Italian cyclists and he succeded to add his fourth result in the top ten in the Tour d eFrance 2015 (one time 8th and three times 9th, in addition to the 8th place obtained by the LAMPRE-MERIDA in the team time trial).

In the early part of the stage, two other blue-fuchsia-gree cyclists, Durasek and Plaza, were very fighting, joining after 15 km in the race a 25 riders breakaway, which unfortunately was neutralized by the peloton just before another attack of 9 riders could escape from the bunch, leading the race until 30 km to the arrival.

"The speed of the race was very high from the beginning to the end of the course - Cimolai explained - That's why in the sprint I could not rely on a high level of energies, however I could exploit my determination to achieve a result in the top five.
I received the preciou support by my team which allowed me to be just behind the top sprinters in the final kilometer. I perceived that there was a strong side wind blowing, that's why it was difficult to try to overtake the other riders on the side of the road: I prefer to make a progression which, however, was not enough to enter in the top five".
