Ultima occasione per i velocisti al Criterium du Dauphiné prima delle grandi salite.
La 4^frazione della gara francese, 176 km con partenza da Tain l'Hermitage e arrivo a Belley, ha proposto solo due Gpm di 4^categoria che non hanno precluso alle ruote veloci del gruppo la possibilità di sfidarsi in volata.
Ancora una volta una fuga di un numero limitato di corridori ha condotto la corsa, con il gruppo a controllare e a ricucire negli ultimi chilometri di gara: tre atleti (Bouet, Nauleau e Veuchelen sono usciti dal gruppo subito dopo il via e hanno guidato la tappa fino ai -4 km dal traguardo (Bouet ultimo ad arrendersi).
Neanche il forte vento ha disunito il plotone, solo un brivido per una caduta a metà gruppo ai - 2 km, poi spazio ai velocisti in volata.
L'uomo designato per la LAMPRE-MERIDA era Pibernik (foto Bettini) e il campione sloveno è stato abile a tenere una buona posizione nell'ultimo chilometro, percorso ad altissima velocità.
Negli ultimi 300 metri Pibernik si è trovato immediatamente dietro ai primi posti del gruppo, difendendo con grinta e con buone gambe la posizione, ma non ha avuto modo di cambiare passo con decisione e recuperare posizioni, tagliando il traguardo in 10^ piazza. Tappa vinta da Boasson Hagen.
In classifica generale, Conti e Meintjes mantengono la 13^ e la 14" posizione a 52" e 54" da Contador, essendo giunti sul traguardo, al pari degli altri uomini di classifica, con 9" di ritardo da Boasson Hagen. Solo Froome è riuscito a evitare un buco creatosi in gruppo.
Il Criterium du Dauphiné proseguirà con tre arrivi in salita consecutivi: Vaujany (5^ tappa), Méribel (6^tappa) e Superdévoluy (7^ e ultima tappa).

Last chance for the sprinters in the Criterium du Dauphiné before the mountains.
The 4th stage of the Franch race, 176 km from Tain l'Hermitage to Belley, was characterized by only two 4th category climbs, which did not prevent the sprinters to fight at full speed on the final straight.
As it had happened in the previous days, once again a few members breakaway led the race since the early kilometers of the course: Bouet, Veuchelen and Nauleau went clear after few kilometers in the race, the bunch controlled them and neutralize the action at 4 km to the arrival.
The wind and a crash at 2 km to go could not change the situation and the peloton sprinted for the victory, which was obtained by Boasson Hagen.
Pibernik (photo Bettini) was today captain for LAMPRE-MERIDA: in the final kilometers, he could defend a good position just behind the front of the bunch, demostating high competitiveness and a good condition, however he could not recover places when the sprint was launched, obtaining the 10th position.
In the general classification, Conti and Meintjes are 13th and 14th at 52" and 54" to Contador, having all the top riders but Froome crossed the finish line at 9" to Boasson Hagen.
The next stages of the Criterium du Dauphiné will have three summit arrivals at Vaujany (5th stage), at Méribel (6th stage) and at Superdévoluy (7th stage).
