Ieri sera la presentazione della Gaiarine-San Fior.

SAN FIOR (TV), 18 giugno 2015 - Nella Marca ritorna il grande ciclismo.
Dopo il Giro d'Italia con la crono Treviso-Valdobbiadene, la provincia si tinge ancora di rosa. Questa volta è proprio il caso di dirlo perché saranno le donne le vere protagoniste.
Il 5 luglio arriverà la Gaiarine-San Fior, la seconda tappa del Giro Rosa che inizierà ufficialmente in Slovenia.

Ieri sera (mercoledì 17 giugno), a San Fior, di fronte al pubblico delle grandi occasioni, è stato svelato ufficialmente il tracciato della tappa che partirà poco distante dal municipio di Gaiarine e attraverserà altri quattordici comuni trevigiani per giungere a San Fior.
Quasi 122 (121.5) chilometri che daranno filo da torcere alle atlete perchè ci saranno alcuni tratti che metteranno in difficoltà anche le scalatrici.

Fino al chilometro 73 sarà una "passeggiata", con tre traguardi sotto la linea d'arrivo a San Fior (Via Zoppè) e un piccolo circuito che si svilupperà nei comuni contermini, poi quando si giungerà a Conegliano la gara entrerà nel vivo.

E' proprio dal Castello della città del Cima che inizierà la seconda fase della tappa che prevede tre gran premi della montagna, rispettivamente a Rua di San Pietro di Feletto, a San Lorenzo di Vittorio Veneto e a Piai di Fregona (Grotte del Caglieron).

Prima di giungere in Via Zoppè, nella frazione San Fior di Sotto, le cicliste dovranno percorrere l'ultimo strappo del "Calvario" a Colle Umberto.
Sono due in particolare le atlete che hanno uno stretto legame con questi territori: Irene Bitto, passista di Cordignano, della Top Girls Fassa Bortolo Calinferno, che ha iniziato a correre proprio con la Sanfiorese (società organizzatrice della tappa) e Francesca Cauz che dovrà tagliare il traguardo proprio davanti alla pizzeria di mamma e papà.
Francesca, residente a San Fior, scalatrice, Maglia Bianca al Giro Rosa 2013, ha già provato questa emozione. E' infatti il secondo anno consecutivo che viene proposta la Gaiarine-San Fior. Lo scorso anno vinse Emma Pooley (Lotto-Belisol) che tagliò il traguardo in solitaria davanti alle olandesi della Rabo-Liv Anna Van Der Breggen (seconda) e Marianne Vos (terza).
Per il patron del Giro Rosa Giuseppe Rivolta, rimasto stupito dal calore del pubblico della Gaiarine-San Fior 2014, "quella del prossimo 5 luglio non sarà una tappa durissima ma le atlete non dovranno perdere la concentrazione perchè non ci sarà respiro a causa della presenza di numerosi traguardi volanti e gran premi."

Il Sindaco di Gaiarine Mario Cappellotto e il primo cittadino di San Fior Gastone Martorel durante la presentazione hanno ringraziato quanti stanno lavorando per la messa a punto degli ultimi dettagli, gli sponsor, la regione, la provincia di Treviso e i comuni attraversati dalla tappa.
Gli ingredienti per una splendida giornata all'insegna dello sport ci sono tutti, ora gli organizzatori sperano solo nel bel tempo.

BUONGIORNO GIRO ROSA DA GAIARINE

Dopo la tre giorni iniziale in Slovenia Il 26° Giro Rosa riparte dalla Provincia di Treviso: la Gaiarine - San Fior (121.5 km) è una delle frazioni più impegnative della prima parte di Giro, con circuito iniziale da ripetere due volte e un tracciato collinare paragonabile a una grande classica. A seguito del secondo transito sulla linea di arrivo, la corsa abbandona la pianura per salire sulle colline del Prosecco, dove sono piazzati ben tre Gran Premi della Montagna, a Rua di Feletto, San Lorenzo e Piai. Nel finale di corsa c'è lo strappo denominato "Calvario", utile a scremare ulteriormente il gruppo per uno sprint sulla carta a ranghi ridotti a San Fior di Sotto, dove è posizionato il traguardo.

GOOD MORNING FROM GAIARINE

After the first three days in Slovenia the 26th Giro Rosa restarts from the Province of Treviso: the 2nd stage, from Gaiarine to San Fior (121.5 km) is one of the toughest of the first part of Giro, with an initial circuit to repeat two times and a second part on the Prosecco hills. Here there are three KOM climbs: Rua di Feletto, San Lorenzo and Piai. At few kilometers from the finish line, the short climb named "Calvario" is useful to bring a small group to the sprint at the finish in San Fior di Sotto.

DOUBLE PER MEGAN GUARNIER, TAPPA E MAGLIA A SAN FIOR!

La campionessa statunitense ha vinto la seconda tappa del 26° Giro Rosa (Gaiarine - San Fior, 121.5 km) e conquista la Maglia Rosa. Per Megan Guarnier, portacolori della Boels Dolmans, è la seconda giornata memorabile in questa stagione sulle strade italiane dopo il trionfo alla Strade Bianche a marzo. Questa volta, sul traguardo di San Fior di Sotto, il podio di tappa è completato da Anna Van der Breggen (Rabo - Liv) e Ashleigh Moolman (Bigla Pro Cycling Team), seguite da Elisa Longo Borghini (Wiggle Honda), quarta e nuova migliore italiana.
La Gaiarine - San Fior si ripete e nonostante l'addolcimento del tracciato rispetto a un anno fa, è stata resa insidiosa dal clima afoso con temperature che hanno toccato anche i 40 gradi. La prima parte di tappa si è corsa a ritmi elevati senza che il gruppo abbia concesso attacchi a eventuali fuggitive. Dopo l'ultimo traguardo volante le cose sono cambiate, con la australiana Carlee Taylor (Lotto Soudal Ladies) e la brasiliana Flavia Oliveira (Alè Cipollini) che se ne vanno e raggiungono un vantaggio di quasi due minuti. Sul terzo GPM passa per prima la Taylor ma cade in discesa e viene raggiunta da un gruppo di contrattaccanti, tra cui la coppia Longo Borghini - Abbott (Wiggle Honda), quella composta da Niewadoma e Van der Breggen (Rabo-Liv) e quella tutta statunitense della Boels Dolmans formata da Evelyn Stevens e Megan Guarnier, le quali riprendono a loro volta anche Flavia Oliveira. E' proprio la campionessa degli Stati Uniti la più veloce nello sprint a ranghi compatti a San Fior, con la maglia Rosa ad attenderla sul podio per essere messa sulle proprie spalle.

DOUBLE FOR MEGAN GUARNIER, STAGE AND PINK JERSEY IN SAN FIOR!

The U.S. Champion has won the second stage of the 26th Giro Rosa (Gaiarine - San Fior, 121.5 km) and becomes the new race leader! For Megan Guarnier of Boels Dolmans Cycling Team is the second Italian triumph of the season, after the Strade Bianche last March. In San Fior di Sotto she has beated Anna Van der Breggen (Rabo-Liv), Ashleigh Moolman (Bigla Pro Cycling Team) and Elisa Longo Borghini (Wiggle Honda), the new Blue Jersey.
From Gaiarine to San Fior like one year ago: same hosts cities but the stage has been very tough due to the very high temperatures (40 °C). The first part of the stage has been run very fast and nobody could escape from the bunch until the intermediate sprint in San Fior. In the second part the things have changed: the Aussie rider Carlee Taylor (Lotto Soudal Ladies) and the Brazilian Flavia Oliveira left the peloton reaching an advantage of about 2 minutes On the top of the KOM in Piai Taylor passes first but crashed in the following descend and she has been reached by a group with Elisa Longo Borghini and Mara Abbott (Wiggle Honda), Katarzyna Niewadoma and Anna Van der Breggen (Rabo-Liv), Evelyn Stevens and Megan Guarnier (Boels Dolmans). This group catched Oliveira and the American Champion Guarnier has been the fastest in San Fior, where the Pink Jersey was waiting to be dressed by her.

Longo Borghini And Abbott Make The Elite Selection On Giro Rosa Stage Two

Wiggle Honda Pro Cycling’s Elisa Longo Borghini and Mara Abbott were both part of the first general classification selection of the 2015 Giro Rosa, as they were part of a highly elite group that formed towards the end of the second stage, between Gaiarine and San Fior. Longo Borghini crossed the line in fourth place, behind Megan Guarnier (Boels-Dolmans), Anna van der Breggen (Rabo-Liv) and Ashley Moolman-Pasio (Bigla), while Abbott came in eighth, just six seconds later.

Guarnier took over the race leader’s pink jersey, but Longo Borghini now sits poised in fourth place, just 13 seconds back, and Abbott rises to eighth place at 37 seconds. As by far the best Italian in the general classification, Longo Borghini now holds the blue jersey.

“I didn’t feel awesome today because it was really, really warm, but I managed to stay with the front group,” Longo Borghini explained, modestly. “In the sprint I was fourth, which is a good result for me. I’m also really happy that Mara was at the front!”

The 121.5km was divided into two distinct parts, with the first, flat part dominated by three circuits around the San Fior area. It was in the second part, with three categorised climbs included in the final 50km, where the race was to be decided, when the two-rider group of Flavia Oliviera (Alé-Cipollini) and Carlee Taylor (Lotto-Soudal) escaped. The two riders led over the first two climbs, but were caught and passed before they could reach the third by the group of favourites.

Included in the group with Longo Borghini and Abbott, Guarnier, van der Breggen and Moolman-Pasio, were Karol-Ann Canuel (Velocio-SRAM) and Guarnier and van der Breggen’s teammates Evelyn Stevens and Kasia Niewiadoma. The group steadily built its lead over the pink jersey peloton behind it, with the gap approaching two minutes as they entered the final kilometre.

Stevens attempted to escape the others, but was pulled back and Guarnier won the sprint for the line.

“I felt pretty good today,” two-time Giro winner Abbott said. “We got away on the second climb of the day, mostly from the Rabo team just lifting the pace.

“I crashed on the descent of the second climb, and I had to chase back alone,” she explained. “I really thought my Giro was over at that point, so to make it back to that group - which was only the eight when I crashed - was just crazy!”

With the group having taken almost two minutes out of the rest of the peloton, the race looks to have been decided for anybody that missed out. With seven more days to come, however, Abbott is wary of writing anybody off at this early stage.

“I thought that today was definitely going to be a hard day,” she confirmed. “But there are more hard days to come, so I wouldn’t say that anyone was finished yet!”

The next group of just 21 riders, including Wiggle Honda Pro Cycling’s Japanese Champion Mayuko Hagiwara, came in after one minute, 47 seconds, with groups spread out on the road behind it.

Wiggle Honda Pro Cycling’s successful day was marred, however, as Spanish Champion Anna Sanchis and French Time Trial Champion Audrey Cordon Ragot were both brought down in a late crash, and both riders were forced to abandon the race.

“Losing Anna and Audrey is a huge loss for the team,” said Longo Borghini. “Because they would have been key riders for the upcoming mountain stages.”

Moolman-Pasio goes close to stage win

Stage two of the Giro Rosa turned out to be a decisive day for the overall contenders. Ashleigh Moolman-Pasio showed good form when she made a select lead group and sprinted to third on the stage.

The result also moved her up to third in the overall classification. Two GPM climbs 30km from the finish had a major effect on the race.

Flava Oliveira (Ale Cipollini) and Carly Taylor (Lotto-Soudal) attacked over the first climb and got a gap of 1 minute 30 seconds. Taylor crashed on the decent leaving Oliveira alone out front. 8 riders including Moolman-Pasio were left following Oliveira. The group of 8 favourites eventually caught and passed her.

Moolman-Pasio opened her sprint and was caught on the line by Megan Guarnier (Boels-Dolmans) and Anna van der Breggen (Rabo-Liv). Guarnier's stage win also earned her the maglia rosa.

"Today was another hot day," Moolman-Pasio said. "The team did an amazing job. In the beginning kilometres we were all together in the bunch and that always place a role in showing the team works as a unit. When we hit the climbs I took over. Rabo were forcing the pace on the climbs and I followed. I felt good and came very close to following the stage win. I took the sprint too long and got pipped on the line but we're getting closer and closer and will look to more stages."
