Durasek in fuga, Cimolai ancora da top 10

Durasek in the main breakaway, Cimolai in the top 10

10 luglio 2015

The blue-fuchsia-green colors led the race for most of the 190,5 km of the 7th stage of the Tour de France, from Livarot to Fougères, thanks to the good performance of Kristijan Durasek and the braveness in the sprint of Davide Cimolai.

The Croatian rider from Team LAMPRE-MERIDA, who won in 2015 the Tour of Turkey and the second stage of the Tour de Suisse, escaped from the bunch few kilometers after the start, leading the race (photo Bettini) with other 4 riders (Teklehaimanot, Maté, Delaplace and Feillu) with 3'50" as maximum advantage.
The peloton, which was led by the Lotto-Soudal, which was interested in a massive sprint finish favourable for Greipel, neturalized the breakaway at 15 km to go.

In the approach of the final kilometers of the race, Pozzato (11 years ago, on July the 11th 2004, he won in Saint Brieuc his first stage in the Tour de France) piloted Cimolai in the front position of the bunch and the Italian sprinter managed to be for the third time in a row in the top ten: he was 9th, victory for Cavendish on Greipel and Sagan.

"We approached the sprint at an impressive rythm, we covered the bends in the final part of the course at a very high speed and in one of these turn I was forced to brake - Cimolai explained - My speed decreased, so I tried to retrieve positions on the final straight in slight ascent, but I could not do better than the ninth place.
Best compliments to my team mate Durasek, who succeded in being in the breakaway which led the race: for a cyclists and the team it's always such a honor to be in the Tour de France's breakaways".

Froome is the leader of the overall classification (Tony Martin was not at the start of the stage), Rui Costa is 24th at 3'58": let's face the arrival of the 8th stage on the Mur de Bretagne.
