7a tappa  Ven 12 Luglio  BELFORT - CHALON-SUR-SAÔNE  tappa in linea pianeggiante 230 Km

Ecco cos'ha dichiarato all'arrivo:

"Oggi all'ultima curva ho rischiato di scivolare ed in quel punto praticamente ho forato, sono arrivato agli ultimi metri che ero con la ruota giù di pressione e mezza sgonfia e mi sono detto, proviamoci comunque.
Mi dispiace per i ragazzi che oggi hanno lavorato benissimo, complimenti a Groenewegen.
Per me oggi solo sfortuna."

Chalon sur Saône, July 12th - With 230km it was the longest stage of 2019 Tour de France and an easy target for pure sprinters. Once again, our Sonny grabs another Top Five after a bunch sprint won by the Dutch Dylan Groenewegen.

Sonny's fourth position gave another confirmation that he is one of the sprinters protagonists of this edition of the French race. "First of all - explains the Italian rider - I have to thank my teammates who have done a great job and it is never easy when there are such strong and determined opponents. As usual, Matej Mohoric piloted Ivan Garcia Cortina and me after the “flamme rouge”, but then I touched another rider and lost positions ".

"I tried to reassemble because I felt very good and I arrived a few meters from the stage winner. Too bad, but I keep repeating that I am fit and will continue to seek victory. It was a hard fought sprint with several riders who touched each other but luckily nobody crashed”.

"Tomorrow there is a very difficult stage - concludes Sonny - with about 3800 meters of vertical elevation that I could define as a small “Liege”. I will take my race very easy while waiting for the Sunday one that I really like and so I want to be at my best ".

Tour de France: Puncture hinders Viviani’s chances

For the seventh consecutive day, Deceuninck – Quick-Step were represented in the top 10 of a stage.

Stage 7 was the last opportunity for sprinters on the opening week of the race and our team was keen on being involved in the fight for a good result. As a result, Kasper Asgreen resumed pace-setting duties, tenaciously marshalling the peloton from kilometer zero and wiping out the lead of the two attackers in the second part of this edition’s longest stage (230 kilometers).

The bunch drew closer and pulled back the breakaway ahead of the 10km-to-go mark, as the pace continued to go up and the sprinters’ teams began fighting for positioning on the wide roads to Chalon-sur-Saône, where the race returned after more than three decades.

Julian Alaphilippe, Yves Lampaert, Michael Mørkøv and Maximiliano Richeze formed a strong and impressive lead-out for Elia Viviani, bringing the Italian speedster into position and deploying him at the front

with 200 meters remaining, but unfortunately his chances were hindered by a flat and all that he could do was finish sixth on the stage won by Dylan Groenewegen (Jumbo-Visma).

“After the last corner I noticed that my wheel wasn’t steady and I realised at once that it was a puncture and I wouldn’t be able to sprint properly. It was bad luck, and it makes me sad, because the guys worked hard today to bring back the escapees and put me at the front with the finish line in sight. But that’s sport, and there’s nothing you can do in this kind of situations”, a disappointed Elia explained.

Tour de France #7: Giacomo Nizzolo 7th yet again

Dylan Groenewegen (Team Jumbo-Visma) sprinted to the stage 7 victory at the Tour de France today. Caleb Ewan (Lotto-Soudal) finished in 2nd place and Peter Sagan (Bora-Hansgrohe) was 3rd.

Stage 7 was the longest stage of this year's Tour de France, covering 230km from Belfort to Chalon-sur-Saone. While long, the route was not all that testing with just 3 smaller categorised climbs in the first half of the stage. This made it the perfect stage for a sprint finish, and that is exactly how the day would end.

Team Dimension Data for Qhubeka prepared the finale for Giacomo Nizzolo once again, with Reinardt Janse van Rensburg and Edvald Boasson Hagen working to position our Italian in the closing kilometers.

The trio were looking good heading toward the final 1.5km, but then a good few twists and turns started to string out the peloton. It was a fight for every meter and Nizzolo and Boasson Hagen just lost the wheel of Janse van Rensburg, when he made a strong move to the front.

Boasson Hagen then tried to move Nizzolo up the left side but they were running out of road, as the favourites started to open up the sprint in front of them. Nizzolo started his sprint from around 7th position and that is where he would stay, crossing the line with his third top 10 result of the week.

"It was a long day into a headwind, I think around six hours on the bike. The final was really fast and a bit technical with some narrow sections and roundabouts. It was difficult to stay together as a team. I had Nizzolo with me at 1.5km to go and I tried to move him up but it was difficult. We were maybe a little bit too far back and found it difficult to stay together." - Reinardt Janse van Rensburg

Ciccone thrilled to stay with Trek-Segafredo

Trek-Segafredo is excited to announce that young Italian climber Giulio Ciccone has prolonged his contract through 2021. The talented Italian was King of the Mountain and won the epic stage over the Mortirolo in the most recent Giro d’Italia. Earlier this season he also won a stage in the Tour Cycliste International du Haut Var.  Yesterday, Ciccone confirmed his great form by finishing second on La Planche des Belles Filles in the first mountain stage of the Tour de France. A second place that also brought him the first yellow jersey of his career.

Ciccone (24): “I am super excited to renew my contract with Trek-Segafredo. I am really enjoying myself in this team, that feels as one big family to me. After my Giro, there were quite some teams interested but for me it was pretty clear I wanted to stay with Trek-Segafredo, where I feel so at home. The team is giving me lots of opportunities to grow and learn and that’s truly amazing. I mean, look at me, I came to the Tour de France to gain some experience and to support Richie Porte in the climbing stages, and here I am, wearing the yellow. I will try to enjoy this jersey as much as I can, but my focus stays with Richie, he’s our leader and I will do my very best to help and protect him as much as possible.”

Trek-Segafredo General Manager, Luca Guercilena: “We signed Giuliobecause we believe in his talent. Winning a stage at the Giro d’Italia as a neo-pro (2016) put him on our radar and we followed  him closely ever since. This season Giulio has already made a big step, but we are convinced he still has a great margin of improvement and I am curious to see where his limits are. He’s a real added value to our team and I am honestly very happy that he will stay with us.”
