HANNAH BARNES, FRECCIA INGLESE A SAN VENDEMIANO

Più veloce di una Formula Uno (ha vissuto anche per un breve periodo nei pressi del circuito automobilistico di Silverstone), la portacolori del Team Canyon SRAM ha vinto la terza tappa del Giro Rosa 2017 (San Fior - San Vendemiano, 100 km) davanti alla finlandese Lotta Lepistö (Cervelo Bigla) e Kirsten Wild (Cylance Pro Cycling).

La tappa è risultata molto movimentata, come da pronostico: al primo passaggio da San Vendemiano se ne va la colombiana Sanabria Sanchez (Servetto Giusta Alurecycling), resistendo fino all'inizio della salita di Cà del Poggio (2° cat.), su cui passa al comando la vincitrice di ieri Annemiek Van Vleuten. L'olandese della Orica - Scott prova ad attaccare in discesa con altre sette atlete di classifica, il gruppo ritorna su di loro da dietro. Ecco che sale in cattedra poi Elena Cecchini, che ci prova con un tentativo di fuga solitaria durato poco più di dieci chilometri a causa della brutale risposta dei teams delle velociste, che iniziano a prepararsi alla volata. Clemilda Fernandes (Servetto Giusta Alurecycling) e Iraida Garcia Ocasio (S.C. Michela Fanini) azzardano uno scatto, anch'esso respinto. La volata è ormai certa, con Chloe Hosking che passa davanti ai -250 metri, ma è Hannah Barnes a superare le avversarie sotto la linea di arrivo. Per la inglese nata nel Kent è il primo successo al Giro Rosa, mentre rimane invariata la Classifica Generale, che vede Anna Van der Breggen in Maglia Rosa, seguita da Van Vleuten ed Elisa Longo Borghini.

Domani è in programma la quarta tappa, con partenza e arrivo a Occhiobello (Rovigo).

HANNAH BARNES, THE ENGLISH FLASH OF SAN VENDEMIANO

Faster than a F1 car (she has shortly lived near the Silverstone Circuit) the Canyon SRAM rider has won the Stage 3 of Giro Rosa 2017 (San Fior - San Vendemiano, 100 kms) beating the Finnish Lotta Lepistö (Cervelo Bigla) and Kirsten Wild (Cylance Pro Cycling).

This has been an eventful stage: the Colombian Sanabria Sanchez (Servetto Giusta Alurecycling) did a solo breakaway just before the first passage on the finish line of San Vendemiano, resisting until the beginning of Cà del Poggio cathegorized climb.), won by Annemiek Van Vleuten. The Dutch of Orica - Scott, who took the win yesterday, tried an attack with seven fighters for the GC but the peloton took them from behind. Elena Cecchini wants a solo win, she could be in the front for more than 10 kilometers but the teams of the sprinters did a "brutal" acceleration with the goal of a bunch sprint. Also Clemilda Fernandes (Servetto Giusta Alurecycling) and Iraida Garcia Ocasio (S.C. Michela Fanini) tried an attack, the bunch is faster and the sprint is here: Chloe Hosking seems the strongest but Hannah Barnes is the first on the finish line. It is the first victory for the born in Kent (England) rider. Nothing changed in the GC, as Anna Van der Breggen keeps the Maglia Rosa on her shoulders, Annemiek Van Vleuten is second and Elisa Longo Borghini.

Tomorrow there is the stage 4, with start and finish in Occhiobello (Rovigo).

Lepistö says she is happy to be back on the podium

Lepistö bounces back with WorldTour podium in Italy

Lotta Lepistö returned to form on stage 3 of the Giro Rosa on Sunday. The Finnish national champion sprinted to second as the race saw its first bunch sprint of this edition. Hannah Barnes (Canyon-SRAM) ended the day as the winner.

Lepistö has returned to racing after facing weeks of illness recently. She also suffered an unfortunate puncture in the opening team time trial which affected her and the teams plans at the start of the race. Ashleigh Moolman-Pasio didn’t take to the start after falling ill yesterday but the team again showed resilience to fight back.

“It’s nice to be back with the team,” Lepistö said. “I feel pretty relaxed. I’m happy to help the team and work for others where I am needed. Maybe we can help Lisa [Klein] get on the podium on some stages too. It’s nice to be back on the podium because I wasn’t sure about my shape but somehow I was there today and could jump on the podium. It’s a nice feeling.”

Lepistö was supported by Cecilie Uttrup Ludwig, Clara Koppenburg, Lisa Klein, Nicole Hanselmann and Stephanie Pohl who were seen covering dangerous attacks as the stage came to a close.

“The last 5km was hectic. It was a very busy finish. I was following the wheels and was a little bit boxed in the final but I had a good speed once I came out. I feel like if the finish line was 5 metres longer I could have passed Hannah but well done to her. She is coming back from an injury last year so it’s good for her. There are 7 stages to go and we will keep trying,” Lepistö concluded.

The Italian Grand Tour continues tomorrow with stage, a 118km course starting and finishing in Occhiobello.

BUONGIORNO DA SAN FIOR

Chiusa la due giorni di Grand Depart in terra friulana, il 28° Giro Rosa si sposta in Veneto per affrontare la San Fior - San Vendemiano, nella celebre Marca Trevigiana. Le colline del Prosecco saranno il teatro della terza frazione, la cui prima parte si sviluppa nelle località intorno a Conegliano, tra cui i due paesi sedi di tappa. A San Vendemiano è previsto anche il rifornimento fisso esattamente a metà tappa e la corsa si sposta verso San Pietro di Feletto e Tarzo, scalando anche il GPM del Muro di Cà del Poggio (GPM di 2° categoria a 241 m), posizionato a 38.8 km dall'arrivo. I trabocchetti della tappa non finiscono, essendo il finale ricco di saliscendi fino al passaggio da Colle Umberto.

Con il Cà del Poggio non lontanissimo dal traguardo è possibile un attacco da parte di un gruppetto ristretto che può giocarsi la vittoria allo sprint.

GOOD MORNING FROM SAN FIOR

With the first two days of race in Friuli, the 28th Giro Rosa moves to Veneto to ride the San Fior - San Vendemiano in the famous "Marca Trevigiana". The Prosecco Hills are the theatre of the Stage 3, and its first part which develops around Conegliano, included the two host cities of the day. The feed zone is in San Vendemiano after 50 km, then the race goes through San Pietro di Feletto and Tarzo, climbing the Muro di Cà del Poggio (KOM Cat. 2 - 241 m), 38.8 kms from the finish. The tricks are not over, the final is up & down until passing through Colle Umberto.

With Cà del Poggio which is not far from the finish, an attack of a small group can be possible to take the victory with a sprint.
