Sacha Modolo affronterà la tappa regina del Tour of Hainan indossando la maglia di leader della classifica generale.
Il corridore blu-fucsia-verde ha mantenuto il comando della graduatoria anche dopo il 4° posto ottenuto sul traguardo di Dongfang, sede di arrivo della 7^frazione della corsa cinese (partenza da Sanya, 167,5 km).
Vittoria per Thomel su Mareczko e Palini, Modolo fuori dal podio: è la prima volta per la LAMPRE-MERIDA nel Tour of Hainan 2015, dopo 2 successi, 3 secondi posti e 1 terzo posto.
La tappa è stata condotta a lungo da una fuga di 4 corridori, giunti a toccare un vantaggio massimo di 4'20" prima che il gruppo rimontasse e completasse l'inseguimento a 4 km dal traguardo.
La soluzione allo sprint è stata inevitabile, con il duo Ferrari-Modolo che non ha trovato la consueta perfetta intesa nell'ultimo chilometro: anche ai migliori capita a volte di commettere delle sbavature.
Il velocista veneto ha cercato un'incredibile rimonta, arrivando vicino a completarla: presentatosi sul traguardo praticamente sulla stessa linea degli avversari, Modolo non ha potuto centrare il podio (foto 7Cycling).
"Oggi non siamo stati perfetti come accaduto nelle scorse volate, Roberto e io ci siamo persi agli 800 metri, da quel momento ho provato una rimonta sul lato destro della strada - ha spiegato Modolo - Sono risalito con forza, ho praticamente appaiato gli atleti che avevo davanti, ma sarebbero serviti altri 10 metri per completare l'opera.
Domani correrò la tappa regina indossando la maglia di leader, questo mi porterà a cercare di onorare il simbolo del primato, anche se sono conscio del fatto che sarà un'impresa molto difficile, dato che il percorso non è propriamente adatto alle mie caratteristiche".

the riders from Team LAMPRE-MERIDA detained in fact the 1st place in the general classification also after the 4th position obtained in the 7th stage of the Chinese race (Sanya-Dongfang, 167,5 km), being preceded by Thomel (1st), Mareczko (2nd) and Palini (3rd).
It is the first time in the Tour of Hainan that LAMPRE-MERIDA is out of the podium, after 2 victories, 3 second places and 1 third position.
The race was led until 4 km to go by 4 attackers, who reacheda a maximum advantage of 4'20" on the buch.
Once the breakaway was neutralized, the peloton approached the final massive sprint, but today the duo Ferrari-Modolo was not perfect as usual, so Modolo had to try to recover on the right side of the road. He succeeded in reaching the head positions, but he could not achieve a place on the podium (photo 7Cycling).
"Today we were not precise as we used to be in the past stages, Roberto and me were not close as it was necessary in the final 800 meters: it's something that sometimes happens in the massive sprints - Modolo explained - I tried the recover on the right side, I overtook many riders and I almost reached Thomel, but ten more meters would have been necessary.
I'll be at the start of the queen stage wearing the leader jersey, I'll try to honor it even if I'm aware of the fact that it will be very difficult to achieve this goal because the course is not suitable for my characteristics".
