TOUR OF QATAR
Ancora spazio per i velocisti nel Tour of Qatar, con la 4^frazione conclusasi con una volata di un gruppo selezionato dal vento che ha soffiato nel tratto finale della corsa.
La tappa (la più lunga della corsa araba, con una distanza di 189 km), scattata da Al Zubarah Fort, ha portato il gruppo verso l'interno della penisola qatariota, per poi tornare verso la costa del Golfo del Bahrein e puntare quindi a nord per entrare nel circuito finale di 13 km di Madinat Al Shalam da percorrere 4 volte.
Il vento ha dato tregua ai corridori nella prima parte di gara, riducendo la tensione in gruppo rispetto alle tappe precedenti.
Una fuga di 11 corridori, tra i quali purtroppo non comparivano maglie blu-fucsia-verdi, ha condotto la gara dal 30° km, nel frattempo il plotone si spezzava in tre tronconi e non tornava unito prima di 70 km.
Prima della neutralizzazione della fuga, avvenuta negli ultimi chilometri di gara, il gruppo si rompeva nuovamente a causa dell'innalzarsi del vento: la LAMPRE-MERIDA ha mancato per poco l'aggancio con il selezionato gruppo di testa, così Modolo, pur non potendo partecipare alla volata per la vittoria (1° Kristoff, 2° Van Avermaet) ha cercato una rimonta che lo ha portato al 14° posto finale, a 14" dal vincitore.
La classifica generale cambia ancora padrone, ora a guidare è Cavendish, con Modolo 11° a 1'06".
"Dispiace non essere riusciti a dare a Modolo l'assistenza necessaria per rimanere nelle posizioni di testa: Sacha ha una buona condizione, lo ha già dimostrato, e anche oggi avrebbe potuto lottare per un bel risultato - ha spiegato il ds Mauduit - Ci rimane l'ultima tappa per cercare di offrire una convincente prova di squadra".

CAMPIONATO SUDAFRICANO A CRONOMETRO
Le bici Merida e i colori blu-fucsia-verdi erano in gara anche in Sud Africa, con Meintjes impegnato nel campionato nazionale a cronometro (foto @LouisMeintjes).
A Wartburg, il giovane scalatore ha completato i 48 km del percorso della prova contro il tempo in 1h04'23", impiegando 3' in più del nuovo campione nazionale Impey.
Nella classifica della corsa, Meintjes è preceduto anche da Reinardt Janse Van Rensburg (2°, +44" dal vincitore) e da Van Zyl (3°, +2'48").
"Non sono molto soddisfatto, prevedevo di riuscire a esprimermi meglio - ha commentato Meintjes - Non ho mai trovato il giusto ritmo di pedalata, nonostante la mia condizione sia buona. Dispiace aver mancato il podio, ma bisogna anche considerare che i tre corridori che mi hanno preceduto sono validi cronomen.
Le gambe sono buone, quindi spero di riuscire ad avere un colpo di pedale migliore domenica, nella prova in linea".
TOUR OF QATAR
The 4th stage of the Tour of Qatar was another good opportunity for the sprinters, but only a small number of fast wheels succeeded in competing for the victory, because of the wind which blew in the final kilometers of the race.
The stage was the longest of the Arabian race (189 km), with start from Al Zubarah Fort. The course headed towards the inland of the Qatar peninsula, then the bunch moved back to the Gulf of Bahrein and to the North, for entering in the final circuit of Madinat Al Shalam, 13 km to be covered 4 times.
In the first part of the course, the wind was not so strong as in the past days, so there was a more relaxed atmosphere in the bunch,so a 11 riders breakwaway made the move after 30 km in the race.
Unfortunately, no blue-fuchsia-green jerseys were in the attack.
Meanwhile, the peloton split in several parts and it did not get united before 70 km.
Before the breakway was neutralized in the final kilometers of the course, the wind became stronger and the bunch was split once again: LAMPRE-MERIDA could not manage to be in the head part of the group, so Modolo had to chase and, despite a great action, he could not partecipate in the sprint for the victory (success for Kristoff on Van Avermaet).
Sacha was 14that 14" to the winner.
Cavendish is the new leader of the overall classification, Modolo is 11th at 1'06"
"It's a pity we could not help Modolo in being in the first part of the peloton when it split in many parts in the very final kilometers - sort director Mauduit said - Sacha is in a good condition and he demonstrated this in the past stages. Today he had the opportunity to obtain an interesting results, but we missed this chance.
In the final stage we must be more attentive and we'll be able for sure to be in the higher part of the stage standing".

SOUTH AFRICAN TIME TRIAL CHAMPIONSHIP
Merida bikes and the blue-fuchsia-green colors raced in South Africa too, where Meintjes (photo @LouisMeintjes) partecipated in the national TT championship.
In Wartburg, the young climber covered the 48 km of the course in 1h04'23", 3' more than the time which was recorded by the new national champion Impey.
In the race classification, Meintjes is preceded also by Reinardt Janse Van Rensburg (2nd, +44" to the winner) and by Van Zyl (3rd, +2'48").
"I'm a bit disappointed, I would have liked to ride a bit better today - Meintjes commented - Just didn't get into a good rhythm, even if my legs are good. I missed a place on the podium, but it was three really good time trial riders in front of me.
I'd like to ride better on Sunday in the road race".
