Dubai City Walk, 26 February 2020 – Dylan Groenewegen outclassed a top quality field of sprinters to take a royal victory on Dubai's City Walk in Stage 4 of the second UAE Tour. The Dutchman beat Colombia's Fernando Gaviria, Pascal Ackermann from Germany, Ireland's Sam Bennett and Australian Caleb Ewan to prove himself the best of the five fastest sprinters in the world today.

The stage winner Dylan Groenewegen said:
The sprint today went much better than the first one at the UAE Tour. It made it a really nice win. My plan for this year is to win as many races as possible. The Giro d'Italia will be very important for me. I hope to win a couple of stages in my first participation.”

The Red Jersey leader of the GC Adam Yates said:The time difference is never enough but I'm in a good condition and this climb [Jebel Hafeet] suits me as everyone realised yesterday. I hope to have the same legs tomorrow. Training is different to racing. I got confirmation that my training has been good for my first block of racing from here until the Tour of the Basque Country. Later I'll target the Tour de France and the Olympics.”

THE ROUTE

Stage 5 – AL AIN WATER STAGE - Al Ain - Jebel Hafeet (162km)
The UAE Tour’s mountain stage. A classic stage that featured regularly on the former Abu Dhabi Tour, it offers a familiar route around Al Ain taking in many of the symbolic places (Al Ain Zoo, Al Qattara, Al Hili, Al Ain Oasis) up to Green Mubazzarah where the final climb of Jebel Hafeet (10km) begins.

Final climb that winds its way through wide-ranging hairpin bends on a 3-lane roadway. Slopes mainly around 8-9% with a peak of 11% 3 km from the finish. Very short descents in the last km before the last ramp. Asphalt finish straight

Speaking seconds after the stage finish, the winner Dylan Groenewegen said: This victory is really nice since all the top sprinters are here, including myself so I looked for the best position to launch my sprint. The speed was very good. My team put me in an excellent position. They did a very good job in the last 3km. I won because I was where I wanted to be in the last corner.”

The Red Jersey leader of the GC Adam Yates said: Apart from a bit of a fright when I avoided a crash, I had a good day on the bike. We rode at the end for our young sprinter Kaden Groves (6th). I hope to have the same legs tomorrow as yesterday.”

Good morning from Stage 4 of the UAE Tour

Zabeel Park, 26 February 2020 – Good morning from Stage 4, the Emirates NBD Stage, of the second edition of the UAE Tour (23-29 February 2020), the one and only WorldTour race in the Middle East. The finish in the Dubai City Walk suits the fast wheels of the peloton.

The peloton, 136 riders strong, passed km 0 at 12:22. Dossard nr. 124 -  Stefan De Bod and 125 - Jay Robert Thomson, did not start.

During the stage, 36 points are the maximum available for the Green Jersey (252 is the race total) and 16 for the Black Jersey (112 is the total). There are a maximum available of 16" time bonuses too, 3" in each of the two intermediate sprints and 10" on the finish line.  

Thanks to Velon’s rider data system, TV viewers and online users can see the riders’ wattage, speed and cadence.

THE ROUTE

Stage 4 – EMIRATES NBD STAGE - Zabeel Park - Dubai City Walk (173km)
The popular walkway through Dubai’s streets now also becomes a favourite racing route. After departing from Zabeel Park this stage joins sections of the classic route with the familiar crossing of Mushrif Park and Motor City before facing the finish in City Walk. Stage 4 is one for the fastest wheels.

Last km
Leaving Nad al Shamma the route runs on wide roads to the final bend at 500m where it enters City Walk and heads to the 8.5m wide finish on block paving tiles.


POINTS OF INTERESTS
ZABEEL PARK, 173KM TO FINISH LINE
Not only is Zabeel Park one of the largest parks in Dubai, but it’s also one of the first technology-driven green spaces in the Gulf. Equivalent in size to 45 football fields, this tranquil spot is located in the centre of the city and is popular for a children’s amusement complex and expansive ‘edutainment’ centre. BURJ KHALIFA, 10KM TO FINISH LINE 
Burj Khalifa, by Emaar Properties, is the tallest skyscraper in the World, standing at 829.8m (2,722ft). Construction began in 2004 and this landmark was officially opened on the 4th of January 2010. The design of Burj Khalifa incorporates cultural and historical elements particular to the region such as the spiral minaret. Made of aluminum, stainless steel and more than 26,000 glass panels, part of a reflective glazing system designed to withstand Dubai’s extreme summer temperatures (the outside temperature at the top of the building is thought to be 6 °C/11 °F cooler than at its base). On the 124th floor terrace lies a touristic observation deck named “At the Top”; it is equipped by augmented reality telescopes which enable visitors to view the surrounding landscape.

DUBAI CREEK, 5KM TO FINISH LINE
Dubai Creek is a saltwater creek, cutting through the heart of Dubai. The seawater Dubai Creek winds its way from the trading port on the Gulf to the Ras al Khor bird sanctuary on the desert edge of Dubai. In the past it was the centre of the shing and pearling industry, which formed the main sectors of the city’s economy. Nowadays the eastern and western banks are connected by one tunnel and four bridges, but the traditional form of transport on the creek, which is still available, were ferry boats.

LA MER (5 KM AFTER THE FINISH LINE)
