GIRO - STAGE 3
ANOTHER 'TOP 5' FOR ELIA VIVIANI !

In an exhausting final, the Cofidis team fought until the end. A few meters behind the winner of the day, Taco Van Der Hoorn, who took over the peloton, Elia Viviani finished 3rd in the sprint and 4th in the day's stage. Together with his teammates, Viviani continues to show that Cofidis will be a force to be reckoned in the next few days.

THE INCREDIBLE  EFFORT OF CONSONNI

In the last few kilometers, everyone worked hard to follow the plan laid out in the briefing. The climbers, Nicolas Edet, Victor Lafay and Rémy Rochas did a brilliant job to keep Elia in the leading group. Then, it was Natnael Berhane who positioned himself at the front of the peloton with about 10 km to go.

Simone Consonni then worked hard to bring Elia Viviani to the front of the peloton before the final climb. In the last kilometer, Consonni redoubled his efforts for several hundred meters to try to bring the peloton closer to Taco Van Der Hoorn. The Dutchman won the race alone, but Elia Viviani took part in the massive sprint and finished in the 4th place, ahead of Davide Cimolai and Peter Sagan.

Tomorrow, the stage will be steep again. After a flat start to the day, the road will rise between Placenza and Sestola. The stage contains three difficulties, including a 2nd category climb in the final part of the stage. This will be an opportunity for Rémy Rochas, Victor Lafay and Nicolas Edet to show their skills.

THEY SAID

Elia Viviani

ELIA VIVIANI, 4th of the stage: "The team did a very good job again, but it is not the result we were hoping for. All the efforts I made on the climbs were not rewarded. I'm happy with the way we fought because most of the sprinters were behind except Peter Sagan and Fernando Gaviria. After that I finished 4th and, in this configuration, I should have finished 2nd, so it is not very satisfying. I am a bit disappointed with the result but not with the performance of the whole team. Simone and all the climbers helped me to stay in the leading group. It shows again that we are ready for the race. But I want to win! "

ROBERTO DAMIANI, team manager: "It was a very demanding stage. Elia Viviani was in much better shape than yesterday. Every day you gain confidence, you realize that the work done before is paying off. Above all we see a great team surrounding Elia. Some of them helped him to be well placed in the first climb, others helped him in the final, like Simone Consonni who did a great job. We have to congratulate Taco Van Der Hoorn for his victory and we have nothing to be embarrassed about with our team-performance. As for tomorrow - it will be a good test for our climbers. "
