Pra Loup, Valls e Durasek in avanscoperta senza paura

Pra Loup, Valls and Durasek attacked without fear

22 luglio 2015

After that LAMPRE-MERIDA spent a happy rest day thanks to the victory of Rubén Plaza in Gap, the Tour de France's riders came back on the roads for the 17th stage, 161 km from Digne les Bains-Pra Loup, which had been already covered in the Critérium du Dauphiné 2015.

The riders started the stage with a battling mood and their legs seemed to be full of energies, since the early kilometers were characterized by many attacks.
For LAMPRE-MERIDA, the two most fighting cyclists were Valls (photo Bettini) and Durasek: the Croatian was 2nd in the summit of the first climb of the course (Col des Leques), then the blue-fucshia-green duo was in the breakaway which succeded in escaping from the bunch on the second climb of the race (Col de Toutes Aures).
Durasek counter attacked with Pauwels and Herrada on the third climb (Col de la Colle Saint Michel), but the action was neutralized.
Later, it was Valls's turn to try to made the winning move, chasing the German counter-attacker Geschke. Valls could not join the attacker (who won the stage) and his action lost efficiency: he completed the race in 19th position, while Durasek was 53rd.

"We covered the first part of a stage pedaling at a very high speed and the breakaway began after many attack attempts - Durasek explained - Rafael and me were tenacious in bening constantly in the head position of the peloton and finally we joined the main breakaway.
I was aware that my condition was not at the top, so I gave my support to Valls. Unfortunately, we could not achieve a good result"

Valls said that: "It was necessary to spend many energies to be in the main breakaway, because of the bunch of attacks which characterized the early kilometers of the race.
I had good feelings and I could rely on a team mate such Durasek in the breakaway, however it was not enough, because Geschke was very strong today. I would have need to live exploit an amazing condition, but today was not one of those days".
