Wiggle High5 Pro Cycling’s Amy Cure won two Gold Medals on the final evening of the Cali, Colombia, round of the Track World Cup yesterday. The two-time former World Champion was a member of Australia’s victorious Team Pursuit quartet, then followed that immediately with a spectacular win in the Points Race on the track where she took her first ever rainbow jersey in 2014.

“It was great to win again here tonight,” Cure told CyclingAustralia. “I love the racing here and the crowd it was amazing tonight.

“I was a bit disappointed with some of my races over the last couple of days so it was good to finish on a high. I didn't put much pressure on myself leading into this race as I just got off the bike from the TP and was very happy with our gold from that.”

Cure came into the final evening after having narrowly missed out on the podium of the new-format, four-event Omnium, and tenth place in the Scratch Race. Australia had qualified in third place in the Team Pursuit, but the team was fastest in the first round; the time of 4:21.580 she five seconds faster than qualification. This gave them a place in the final against Italy, which they were to win by more than seven seconds.

“My plan was actually to sit in the first few laps to try and recover from the Team Pursuit,” Cure explained. “My legs where hurting as I wasn't the strongest in the TP and that hurt me a lot. I knew it was very important for me not to go too deep to early into the race. And then see how I feel in the back end.”

It was to be Cure that was the only rider to successfully take a lap, however, with the 20 points giving her a comfortable lead. Former World Champion Sarah Hammer tried to take a lap late on, which would have stolen the Gold Medal from Cure, but the American was unable to make contact with the rear of the bunch.

“It was stressful for me also," Cure said of the closing stages of the race. "I was just on the front the last eight laps to go going my hardest in hope that they would not close the gap. It was a little bit out of my control. But I'm very happy with how the last 10 laps played out. There where for sure a lot of us on the end of our seats.”
