Cancellara in Yellow after Tremendous Time Trial

Saxo Bank's Swiss tempo specialist, Fabian Cancellara,
put all competitors behind him on today's first stage of the
Tour de France where Alberto Contador was dropped by 18 seconds
on the 15.5 kilometer long course in the streets of Monaco.
In the intermediate, on top of today's category 4 climb the
Swiss road race champion was several seconds behind Alberto
Contador, but on descent and on the flat road to the finish
line the time machine from Berne clearly demonstrated who
is the king of the race against the clock.
The
team's hope for the GC, Andy Schleck, also did a good
time trial and lost only one minute to his team mate which
made him 18th on the stage.
"It
was a fantastic victory and I am immensely happy to be wearing
the yellow jersey after the initial time trial for the third
time in my Tour de France history. I was aware that being
the favorite to win heavu expectations were on my shoulders
but I work well under pressure. I had a perfect charging prior
to the race, the team has given me the necessary peace, and
today was just about doing what I do best. I am obviously
looking very much forward to starting in the leader's jersey
tomorrow”, said a delighted Fabian Cancellara
after his supreme victory.
And
team owner Bjarne Riis, was entirely satisfied with
his team after the sublime opening of the course:
"Fabian
has once again shown his amazing abilities in time trialing.
We opened the Tour de France with a big bang and nobody
can seriously doubt that we have had a dream start in this
year's edition of the season's major objective”,
said a happy Bjarne Riis after watching his rider winning
the first showdown in the 96th edition of the Tour de France.
Ballan
è il migliore della Lampre-NGC: 23°

monegasca per il Tour de France, con la cronometro
di apertura che ha assegnato a Cancellara la prima maglia
gialla.
In casa Lampre-NGC si è registrata la buona
prestazione di Alessandro Ballan: il Campione del Mondo
è stato il migliore tra i blu-fucsia, concludendo la
sua prova contro il tempo in 23^ posizione con un tempo di
20'42", 1'10" più di Cancellara.
Per quanto riguarda gli altri corridori della Lampre-NGC,
Marzio Bruseghin (35°) ha percorso i 15,5 km del
tracciato impiegando 7" in più di Ballan,
Spilak ha fatto registrare il 75° tempo (1'40"
da Cancellara), Santambrogio il 136° tempo (a 2'13"),
Righi il 137° tempo (a 2'14"), Loosli il 147°
(a 2'22"), Bandiera il 159° (a 2'32"),
Sapa il 164° (a 2'36"), Furlan il 178°
(a 3'19").
"Il
percorso era parecchio duro e proprio considerando questo
posso 
essere
soddisfatto per la mia prestazione
- ha commentato Ballan - La
giornata era iniziata per me in modo insolito, ovvero con
una visita dal dentista: ieri sera, mangiando una ciliegia,
mi si è rotto un molare e quindi in mattinata ho dovuto
recarmi dal dentista per un breve e indolore intervento odontoiatrico.
Per quanto riguarda le prossime tappe, questa prima settimana
di Tour mi servirà per rifinire la condizione e per
ritrovare il colpo di pedale necessario per provare a vincere
una tappa dalla seconda settimana in poi".
E' Fabrizio Bontempi, ds Lampre-NGC, a tracciare
il bilancio della giornata: "Abbiamo
prodotto prestazioni in linea con le aspettative. Ballan ha
mostrato di aver già una interessante brillantezza
e la sua prova è stata buona; discreta la giornata
di Bruseghin, con una condizione che certamente crescerà
col passare delle tappe".
A incitare i corridori blu-fucsia, si sono succeduti come
ospiti in ammiraglia i patron Galbusera della Lampre,
Enrico e Andrea Gastaldello della Wilier Triestina
e Francesco Guidolin, allenatore della squadra
di calcio del Parma: a tutti loro va il ringraziamento della
Lampre-NGC per il supporto dato ai corridori.
