Barredo gana la Clásica de San Sebastián
El ciclista español Carlos Barredo , del Quick Step, se ha
adjudicado la Clásica San Sebastián al imponerse en
el sprint a su compañero de fuga en los últimos kilómetros
Roman Kreuziger.

SEBASTIAN , 1 agosto 2009 - Thanks
to a race run by the book, today Carlos Barredo won a wet Clasica
San Sebastian, beating after 237 k the team Liquigas rider Roman
Kreuziger at the sprint.
The
final – After a crashed in a downhill sector descending the Jaizkibel
because of the wet road, The “Barredo show” started on the
Paso por Arkale climb, about 16 k from the finish line. Barredo,
together with Frenchman Fedrigo, attacked the Russian Petrov,
who until then was in the lead. During the down hill, with about 13
k to go in the race, Barredo took off alone but Luis Leon Sanchez
managed to catch up to him. With 7 k to go until the finish line Kreuziger,
Fedrigo and Kirchen also managed to break away from
the group. As the three riders were coming up to the front of the
race Kreuziger poured on the gas with Barredo right on his
wheel, up to the sprint, where the strongest athlete prevailed.
The
declarations - “Sports-wise this is
the best day of my life - recounts an enthusiastic Barredo
- In the Tour de France I tried attacking
thousands of times without luck and the last days in France
I also had to deal with the onset of bronchitis. But mentally I stayed
focused. I trained constantly and today I can enjoy the results. There
were a lot of adversaries today, but I knew I could be up there with
the best. So I tried to ride my race without worrying about the competition
too much. Too many times in the past I lost the moment because I was
waiting for my adversaries."

victory for the team - "This victory
is dedicated to the team - continues Barredo - who
worked really well today and who really needed an important win like
this one after a not easy Tour de France. Now I’m looking
forward to a period of rest before turning my attention to the Vuelta
Espana and the end of the season. I’d like for this performance
to not be a one shot deal, but just the beginning of a series of good
performances.”

premia una Lampre-NGC molto attiva

Nella
classifica finale della Clasica San Sebastian il miglior
corridore della Lampre-NGC è Damiano Cunego,
giunto al traguardo in 22^posizione, ma l'ordine d'arrivo non rispecchia
quanto di buono mostrato oggi dalla squadra diretta in ammiraglia
da Maurizio Piovani.
I corridori blu-fucsia hanno infatti interpretato la corsa basca
in maniera propositiva, facendosi trovare presenti praticamente
in tutti i frangenti chiave della gara.
Il primo a mettersi in evidenza è stato Marzano, il
quale si è inserito in una fuga che ha avuto vita fino alla
salita dello Jaizkibel: proprio sull'ascesa più impegnativa
della corsa, Spilak è scattato con potenza dal gruppo
per provare a riportarsi su Petrov, rimasto nel frattempo
solitario in testa alla gara. L'azione di Spilak sarebbe
stata efficace se il corridore sloveno non avesse avuto enormi difficoltà
nell'affrontare la discesa resa viscida dalla pioggia: Spilak
ha rischiato per 3 volte di cadere e di conseguenza è stato
riassorbito dal gruppo.
E'
stata la successiva ascesa dell'Arkale a riaccendere la corsa:
in compagnia di Fedrigo (poi riassorbito dal gruppo) Barredo
si è mostrato per la prima volta allo scoperto. Lo spagnolo,
nel finale di gara, è andato in avanscoperta altre due volte
e proprio l'ultima, uno scatto per rientrare su Kreuziger
lanciato solitario verso il traguardo, si è rivelata vincente:
1° Barredo davanti a Kreuziger, con il gruppo
di circa 30 unità al traguardo con 7" di svantaggio
(Cunego 22° e Spilak 28°).
Nelle fasi finali della gara si è visto anche un Cunego
molto attivo: Damiano è rientrato sulla testa della corsa
dopo lo Jaizkibel e ha tenuto le ruote dei migliori sull'Arkale,
per trovarsi poi in un gruppetto di 6 uomini che negli ultimi 2
km ha provato, senza fortuna, a riagguantare il duo Kreuziger-Barredo.
"I ragazzi hanno corso con entusiasmo:
purtroppo il risultato finale non ci ripaga di quanto mostrato in
gara - ha commentato il ds Piovani - Siamo
sempre stati presenti nelle fasi calde della corsa, nonostante Bandiera
e Tiralongo siano stati attardati da cadute. Spilak
ha provato ad anticipare il gruppo sullo Jaizkibel, ma è
stato tradito dalla discesa. Per quanto riguarda Cunego,
direi che la sua prestazione di oggi è stata davvero valida,
considerando i pochi giorni di corsa che ha nelle gambe dal rientro
dopo la pausa".
Lampre-NGC's
riders performed a good race in Clasica San Sebastian, but
they could obtain only a 22nd place thanks to Cunego.
Blue-fucsia coulours were present in all the main moment of the race:
as first, Marzano joined a breakaway that was neutralized on
Jaizkibel, then it was Spilak's turn to try to attack
on Jaizkibel. The action of the joung Slovenian was good, but the
almost crashed three times in the downhill and so the bunch caught
him.
In the chaotic final kilometers Barredo followed a lonely attack
by Kreuziger and preceeded him in a dual sprint, while the
bunch of 30 riders reached the arrival after 7": in this group
there were also Spilak (22nd) and Cunego (28th) who
performed a brilliant race and who was in a little group of 6 athletes
that at 2 km to go tried to chase the duo Kreuziger-Barredo.
